Boots Beach Has a New Address

Regular followers of my blog will know that Boots Beach holds a special place in my Second Life.  When I first arrived in SL, this was where I used to hang out with all the "Beach Bums"  It is also where I met my early mentors JakeC Hotshot and Eddi Haskell.

Markus has managed to keep the beach going strong with parties and shops and yes you can still just hang out around the camp fire.  A few weeks ago the beach moved and I wanted to share with you the new landmark.  There have been a few changes, but you will still find the same welcoming space that people have come to know and love.   Grab this surf board and go check it out -- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Gay%20Fun%20Beach/74/38/21

Happy 5th Rez Day Me!

5 years ago today, I rezzed in-world and found myself at Boots Beach. It was there that I met a couple of great guys who helped me get started. Jakec Hotshot and Eddi Haskell. In the early hours (2 or 3am) they gave this noob a complete makeover and even a job as a host at Jake's Club. Probably the most important thing that has stuck with me was the message Jake told me -- "always pay it forward". We all started out with so much to learn in SL and it is important that as we move on that we never forget that and remember to share with others on the journey. I have so many great memories and pics of those days. I may create an album of them. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of my SL adventure.

Happy 3rd Rez Day Brady Rowell

On Friday, we had a fun Circus theme party for Brady Rowell's 3rd Rez day.  We cleared out a corner of my sim and set up a tent with carnival rides and everything.

Thanks to Brodie Washborne, Jett Shoreman, and JakeC Hotshot for helping set it all up.  We definitely still know how to throw a great party.  It was a lot of fun and thanks to all our friends that showed up to help us celebrate.

Braaaaaaaaaady is a great guy and always makes me smile.  He is a wonderful SL Bro and I love him a lot.  All the best!

May 23, 2008. That's when Rocky rezzed in Second Life. So much has happened over the past 2 years, but the one thing that has been consistent is the wonderful love and support that I have received from my SL family and friends. The pic is me in the middle dancing with Jake at Boots Gay Beach.

So my gift to you is my DJ stream which will be on air from now until around 5pm PT/SLT. You can listen here -- http://tr.im/djrocky Happy Listening!!

This Gnome has a Home.

Who knew that this cute little gnome would capture so much attention at Jake's Enchanted Forest Party last night? It was a lot of fun putting this look together. Thanks to Baz and Jake who helped me out with it. It really got me laughing and smiling.

If you missed the party this week -- You really should of been there. Regi did a great job designing the set. Who knew you could fit a whole forest into the club space? Wow. Amazing! Click the picture for a larger view.

A Commentary

What do you enjoy about being a part of the Second Life experience? I often get IMs from my SL friends telling me that there is so much to learn and experience in SL. It never seems to end. All SL residents have an awesome opportunity to help make this the best experience not only for ourselves, but for others who cross our paths.

Creators and Builders play an important part. I am always amazed at the buildings and landscaping that I find when I am out exploring. Whether it's something that mirrors RL or something completely whimsical and totally different.

Special objects like party invitations and gestures benefit everyone when they are shared.

Clothing Designers are also creating some really nice stuff. If you are looking for something really formal or casual you are sure to find something just right for you. Just take a look at the list of stores taking part in the Make Him Over Hunt going on now through the end of the month.

What sort of skills do you have? There are all kinds of opportunities in SL to learn about how to do things. No matter how big or small your dream is, just do a search in SL and go try it out. Do you aspire to make money in SL? The nice thing about it is that we are all able to explore those ideas and not have the expectations that RL can impose on us.

Got a secret fantasy or desire to try something new? Maybe you dreamed about a different type of job experience. Escort? SL offers everything from being a Neko, a Greenie, or even a Tiny to all kinds of Role Play options. Want to explore something a bit on the wild side? It's all out there for you to try.

I have heard that lots of people enter SL and get bored and leave. I often wonder why. Does it have to do with the learning curve we all have when we start? Could there be better help when you first arrive in SL? Yeah this world can be tough to figure out at times, but why do people put so much pressure on themselves. My partner Duke always tells me, "take your time", when I learn or work on a new skill.

This all takes me back to a lesson I learned from Jake when I first arrived in SL. "Always pay it forward by sharing what you learn with others." This is very sound advice for all of us that are in SL. So remember that when you come across a newbie and never forget that we have been there before too.

My First Year in Review - Part 1

This past week I have had several IMs from my SL friends recalling times, places and events over the past year. Most of these you can read about by checking the blog archive on the right, but I wanted to highlight a few here.

As best as I can recall, it all started when I landed on Boot's Gay Beach just after May 23, 2008. It was there that I met JakeC Hotshot and Eddi Haskell. I became the project of a newbie makeover. Something that took several hours and alot of patience on my part to complete. Everything from my Fratboy shape and Dante skin from Naughty, followed by a trip to FNKY for a few things. I guess you could say it was an extreme makeover.

I remember becoming the first prom king at a Jake's party. This was followed by getting a job at Jake's Club and becoming one of The Original Jake's Boys, Getting my photo taken by Eddi for the tip jar. Having long late night chats in the gallery with my first best SL friend Brady. Hanging out with Jamie Flintock, who was so patient with me as I was learning how to climb up stairs. And I will never forget my first Brady photoshoot in the water with Baz and Troy.

But just as things were getting started for me, a few months later, my computer hard drive crashed and I was not able to log into SL.

Family Group Hug

Tonight was Family Night and a way for us to celebrate Syri's Bday/Rez Day. It was pretty cool. We all put on our pajamas and got together in Brady & Troy's Theater to watch the movie Rent. It was a lot of fun. We ended our time together with a group hug. Who knew we could all squeeze in this tight for a hug.

Family Night at Brady & Troy's Home

Last night I went over to see what was up at Brady & Troy's home. Baz, Jake, and Ritch were there playing Greedy. A pretty cool game that I still need to get the hang of. Ritch helped me out to get started and Tyler sent me a notecard to look over.

Afterwords, we hung around to chat and dance. Hey Rocky definitely can't pass up dancing. I even dance when I build and I bet you do too. We recalled our early days in SL. Lot's of good stuff. I love all my SL friends. Hugs.

The New Jake's Club Resort

I have some exciting news for all my friends. There are lots of changes coming and I want to keep you informed about them. The Jake's family has been hard at work preparing to transform the new Jake's Club Resort into a great place for all our friends to visit, dance, and shop.

In the coming days, I will be working on a new site which will bring you all the latest news on club events, and all things related to the new sim now known as Jake's Club Resort.

Our leasing office is open and I invite business owners to contact JakeC Hotshot or Baz Ceawlin about becoming a part of the new mall. We have a few tennant spaces open, but they are filling up quickly.

Rocky was up late.

I went dancing with my best friend Duke at Sky and then we headed over to catch Syri at Thunder. After saying goodnight, I went home to play around with some terraforming and landscaping. I am not very good at the terraforming, but I guess practice makes perfect. I planted a few trees and played around with a few dock ideas that Duke gave me. I have lots of ideas but nothing concrete and sometimes it helps to just dive in and see how things will look.

Jake and Ritch came over and we chatted while I danced and worked in the yard. It was a late night, but a good one. I really need to watch the time better.

Family Night of Swing Dancing

Last night I got an invitation to join Brady and Troy as they celebrated four months together as partners. My how time flies here in SL. We went to this really cool place called Vault Vintage Jazz Club. They have a very friendly staff and serve awesome drinks. This Art Deco/Noir based music club streams music from the 1920s-1950s. Very cool if your looking for a nice change of pace. Brady & Troy, Jake & Baz, Ritch, Myles, Tyler, and I all had a great time.

What's new?

Yesterday, I packed up what was left at my place on Troy. This was the site of my first SL home, so I leave it with lots of memories. Like a lot of places here in SL, the land rents were going up, up, up. I was fortunate to get a nice offer on a place from Thomm Collins. It's a great location on the edge with a great view of the sunset over the water and plenty of land to spread out and play. I also have more of my SL family living nearby -- Brady & Troy, Jake & Baz, and Ritch. Some of the funny pranks that have gone on here the last few days have kept me laughing so hard. Getting the home fixed up and making time to play continues to occupy most of my time.

Moving it forward

Sunday night I tagged along with my good friend Brady for a visit to Naughty. It was all about helping a new resident get off to a great start. Her name is Blaque Hendrassen. Brady and I helped her out with a new head of hair in a great style that compliments her features. She looks fabulous. We then checked out a few places for clothes and told her that we would get Ritch to help out in that department.

The trip certainly brought back memories for me when I first landed in SL. Jake took me on that very same field trip now almost 6 months ago. Time has certainly passed quickly.

I have come to realize that this is what we do here in SL. We try to help others along the way and it's something I will always remember. My friend Jake told me the same thing when I started out too. I am always grateful for that.
