DJ Syriana Paine

Over the weekend I was reminded of someone's Birthday.  Sunday was DJ Syri's Birthday.  I actually blogged an interview with her here and a followup here.

So where is she now?  You may remember her from her days with Jake's Club Resort.  She was quite a regular for Time Warp Tuesday, Stripdown Thursday, and the weekly Saturday Theme party.

Syri was definitely a part of my SL Family.  I always had a great admiration for her and loved her DJ style and interactions. 

I also got to know her a bit more outside of the clubbing scene.  She always had a great sense of wit and wisdom to share.  Skype chats were also a great way to get to know her more.

I recently caught up with her on Facebook and have added her as a friend there.  She seems to be spending less time in SL now, but I just wanted to let you know that she is still around and not forgotten.

Tuesday Timewarp

Last night I was hosting our weekly Tuesday Timewarp with DJ Syriana Paine in the Plaza at Jake's. If you have not been to any of these you really should go. Last night we introduced something new. Trivia questions. Brady Rowell came up with our list of questions and Ritch Nicholls read them out in local chat. There was great guest participation. The winner who answered the most questions correctly got to pick the theme for the next week's party. Congratulations to my boy Kaladon Daxter!! He chose "One Hit Wonders" for our next week theme. That should be interesting. I hope to see you there next week.

Rocky's Birthday Party

Last night my friends came out to celebrate my birthday with a 1950s sock hop style. I had no idea this was going to be as huge an event as it turned out to be. Baz built a 50s style diner for it. Ritchie was our DJ for the night. He played songs with milkshake, and rockstar. That was pretty cool. After a break, I logged back on and headed over to Hunter's for FFF with the awesome DJ Syriana Paine. She ended her set and stayed a little longer and played some of my old time favorites from my very early days in SL. That brought back lots of great memories for me. Thanks sooooooo much. Halloween Bash Wrap up

Wow! Last night was Jake's Spooktacular Halloween Bash. We had another great looking set thanks to Baz Ceawlin. It was complete with tombstones, ghosts, fog, candles and spooky buildings. DJ Syri even created a custom tip jar with a skeleton on a pole. The dancefloor was packed with friends old and new in some great costumes. The lag was not too bad and I only crashed a few times. LOL. Guess I sorta get used to it after so long. Tonight (Friday), I have 3 or 4 invites to more parties. Not sure how many I will be able to get to, but if you see me, be sure to say 'hi".

Weekend Recap

Friday, Ritch and I did our little dj gig at the pool at Jake's Club. We had a great turn out. We always enjoy playing tunes for all our friends that show up.

Saturday was regular theme party at Jake's. This week it was the awesome Star War's Party. The set was so cool. Everyone really got into it with costumes and lots of light sabers. Syri played tunes and kept the party going.

Sunday I was a little busy coming up with a GLAM outfit for Divos Titanium's birthday party later that evening. My friends, Tyler and Ritch did a fantastic job, putting things together. Ritch kept the party rockin as our dj for the night.

Monday was our weekly photo shoot for the club party poster. I started looking when I got home from work. I got an IM from Baz asking about my progress. Brady joined us and we were able to come up with something. We always come up with some great ideas when we get together.

Wow! Rocky has been a very busy boy.

Friday night I was weeding through my inventory -- Does it ever end? -- thinking that this is not that fun. So I gave up on the inv, tried on a few clothes and decided to look for something to do inworld. Hey, SL is a big place with all kinds of stuff to see and do right? I got a group message from Syri and decided to head to Galthies House of Slaves for some good music and dancing fun. Looks like lots of my friends were there, including Ritch, Divos, Tyler, and Zann. When I saw them, I realized that this was definitely THE place to be.

My First Year in Review - Part 2

Rocky returns to SL with a new computer and realizes the huge difference a better graphics card can make on his SL experience.

Getting land and making a home in SL was a pretty cool thing after spending months homeless and looking for discreet places to change clothes in.

Keeping up with all the changes going on with the club and keeping the community spirit that makes Jake's a home for everyone who comes out to party with us.

Meanwhile, my friend list begins to grow. I become good friends with Troy Antwerp, Patty, Ritch, Tyler and my huge Jake's family. I also get connected with my blog buddy and friend JC who shares tips with me and inspires me to look for ways to make my blog interesting. I also become a co-author on the Jake's Club blog.

Brady and Troy's wedding last year was another first for me and I was so happy to be a part of that experience.

Then came getting SL voice to work and joining my SL friends on Skype. Another cool experience that I would recommend others participate in.

These days its all about spending time with my Duke. He has become my very best friend and partner.

Looking back I can see that Rocky has come a long way to where he is today, but it is not without all the great friends who have shared the adventure with me. Love you all and I look forward to many more awesome experiences. (((HUGS)))

Family Group Hug

Tonight was Family Night and a way for us to celebrate Syri's Bday/Rez Day. It was pretty cool. We all put on our pajamas and got together in Brady & Troy's Theater to watch the movie Rent. It was a lot of fun. We ended our time together with a group hug. Who knew we could all squeeze in this tight for a hug.

Strip Down Thursday

It's that time of the week again. Time to join us at Jake's for our weekly party when we all can unwind and welcome the weekend that's just around the corner. Join me and the rest of the Jake's boys tonight at 8pm SLT. The awesome DJ Syri will be on deck taking your requests and playing all your favorite tunes. Heck yeah. It's Lucious Latex on Saturday and I want to see you at Jake's for a really hot party as we celebrate DJ Syri's Rez Day. Whoo hoo. I can't wait to see what you come up with for a costume.

I went to a really fun Rez Day party last night for my awesome friend Brady Rowell. That's him in the green shirt with the grape koolaid in his hand. Our whole SL family was there. We got to have cookies, ice cream, ride a carousel and play games. Yaaaay! Love ya Brady!!

DJ Syriana Paine

A few weeks back, I posted my interview with DJ Syriana Paine. Now I want to give you a follow-up with some comments from me on why I believe Syri is one of SL's fantastic DJ's.

Syri as her friends call her, has a very hot, sexy voice. She takes requests from clubbers and has a fantastic collection of songs covering a wide range. Her interaction with guests really makes her special. She always seems to know your favorite song(s) -- the ones that recall special moments in our lives. When Syri plays at Jake's Club Resort, you can find her in costume whatever the theme is that week. She even takes time to participate in weekly promo shoots. Syri is a true friend, a dedicated DJ and is loved by many that show up to hear her spin music wherever she is playing on the grid.

How long have you been a dj here in SL? Two yrs in April

What do you enjoy about it?
It is one of the best ways to spread positive energy and give out to people of all walks of life. Music is the medium you can touch people in ways you may not have ever had opportunity to, as there's always new people coming to dance, or somewhere the stream is on, like a private residence or somesuch. Also, you may not realize their mood when they come in and just one song can change it from sad to happy, stressed to calm... music is very powerful like that. Additionally, it's like a mental landmark... how many times have you heard a song later on and thought 'omg the first time I heard this song I was doing (insert activity) with (insert friends) or a special date etc etc. Being one of the ones that gets to provide those things, fills me. If even one person is smiling or feeling better by the end of my set, I've done my job :) It's the best job I could ever have.

Is there anything else you want your fans to know?
I am available for private parties and events from fashion shows to weddings, narraration, background music, receptions etc. I am also an Officator for weddings/partnerships.

How can your fans connect with you?
I have two groups, one is public and can be found in search under DJ Syriana's Group. It is open to join. The other group is invite only. In both I announce where I am playing daily.

DJ Rocky - Just for fun

Rocky was up late.

I went dancing with my best friend Duke at Sky and then we headed over to catch Syri at Thunder. After saying goodnight, I went home to play around with some terraforming and landscaping. I am not very good at the terraforming, but I guess practice makes perfect. I planted a few trees and played around with a few dock ideas that Duke gave me. I have lots of ideas but nothing concrete and sometimes it helps to just dive in and see how things will look.

Jake and Ritch came over and we chatted while I danced and worked in the yard. It was a late night, but a good one. I really need to watch the time better.

Last night leftovers were delicious

I woke up this morning filled with "stuff" to blog about. Last night I had a great chat with JC. It was so cool to dance with him in the bubble. The song that DJ Syri ends the sets with kept playing in my ear. You know the one. 525,600 from Rent.

Cleaning out and organizing my inventory earlier in the day brought some discoveries of things I had no idea why I acquired them. Sure it's nice to have all these things, but as in real life they can't replace, care, friendship, patience, honor, respect, and the glue that binds them all together -- LOVE. My eyes opened once again as I read it on JC's shirt and saw it in the smile upon his face. Yes, we are all RL people behind the avatars we create and there is no denying that our interaction can have an affect on ourselves and on others. Let's always remember that. Hugs.
