5 years ago today, I rezzed in-world and found myself at Boots Beach. It was there that I met a couple of great guys who helped me get started. Jakec Hotshot and Eddi Haskell. In the early hours (2 or 3am) they gave this noob a complete makeover
and even a job as a host at Jake's Club. Probably the most important
thing that has stuck with me was the message Jake told me -- "always pay
it forward". We all started out with so much to learn in SL and it is
important that as we move on that we never forget that and remember to
share with others on the journey. I have so many great memories and
pics of those days. I may create an album of them. Thanks to everyone
who has been a part of my SL adventure.

A Phone Number for Your Avatar
AvaLine: Assigns residents a Second Life phone number (via an extension), enabling friends and business associates to call directly from a landline, cell phone or VOIP application. Users can opt in for either a monthly or annual contract, although for the next six weeks, the service will be free to the first 1,000 residents who join the beta (visit the Second Life blog for details). Monthly and annual fee has yet to be determined. Full rollout due prior to the end of June. Visit this page for more information.

Did you take your meds today?
I'm sure you may have experienced this in SL. You are hanging out somewhere with a friend or something, and then you suddenly look on your screen and notice your avatar's head is doing this rather harsh twitching. It's as if you are possessed by some demon. Do you ever wonder what actually causes this? Is it just an SL quirk? Are there things you can do to reduce this from happening?
Here is one idea that I have -- Could this be tied to all the HUDs and stuff that your avatar is wearing? Could there be a conflict with some of them that causes this? We already know that most AO's interfere with dance animations. We also know that the scripted objects including any "bling" we wear cause a certain amount of lag. What do you think?
This also reminds me of my early days in SL and the "missing shoe" problem which seemed to be a common problem for not only me but others as well.
In any case, Duke and I made some prim med bottles to pass to each other just in case one of us forgets to take his meds.

Give me some skin.
Last night I got an invite from Yummy Andrew to Club Ultra where he was playing. DJ Yummy is a really cool, nice friendly guy so how could I say no. The crowd was light, maybe about 8 or 10 at the most. While I was there, I came across Warren Shepherd. Warren's avatar skin looked a bit familiar to me. It was sorta like looking in the mirror -- well not exactly -- but it turns out that we do have the same skin. I had a flashback to my noob long late night makeover and my first trip to Naughty.
So this got me thinking about avatar appearance. I have been in SL for almost a year now and have never changed my skin. Eventhough I have played around with some variations of my prim hair, I probably will keep my skin for a while longer. My friend Ritch has recently played with trying a new skin. Even Duke invited me to go check out skins.
So how comfortable are you in YOUR skin? Whether the change is subtle or extreme it may not only say something about you, but also about how we see each other. There is no denying that the visuals can be quite amazing here in SL -- almost lifelike. How important is this for you? Eye candy is nice, but Rocky also likes substance. How we get at the substance can, in some cases be a bit more challenging. Hugs.
