PlantPets @ Rockridge Heights on SL Marketplace

Ever since the recent introduction of Viewer Managed Marketplace (VMM), I wondered exactly how easy it would be and if I could take my in-world PlantPet store and move some of them there.

So after watching a few of Torley Linden's tutorials and reading all the documentation, I decided to give it a try.

It was really not that difficult to set up a store and get started.  Of course, my product is not that complicated with having  mesh and versions, etc.  The store was only up a few days and I already made my first online sale.  I have a few PlantPets listed and hope to add more as time goes on.  It's a great way to clear out inventory of old Gacha's as well.  Many people seem to have taken advantage of selling those as well.

Here is the link to the PlantPets @ Rockridge Heights store on the Marketplace.

If you want to visit the in-world store then click HERE to teleport direct.

Weekend Shopping

OK I admit it, I do enjoy shopping in Second Life and lots of times I really have to wonder why.  I always ask myself this question when I am spending time in my inventory.  I am usually in it before I log out for the night. I think the key to keeping your inventory tidy is to consider everything you acquired during your login and put the stuff in a proper folder,   Trash the notecards and LM that you really don't need and THEN logout.  My guess is that no one really wants to spend the time, but trust me, its worth the effort.

Sure I occasionally hit up TMD and MOM, but there are two weekend shopping events that I never miss.  Fifty Linden Fridays and Lazy Sunday. These offer things for the home, but you can still find the girl stuff in them.  If you like the things from WhatNext and Digs, then you can usually find them on the list.

If you really enjoy shopping and want to pre-shop online before you visit the store inworld, then I would encourage you to visit www.seraphimsl.com.  This way you can do a quick preview before you go to the actual event or store.

Are you employed in Second Life?

When you first rez into Second Life you are probably going to be homeless and without a job.  So is that a big deal?  The nice thing is that you are NOT naked.  Thanks to Linden Lab, you do get to choose a basic avatar, and the human ones do have clothes,

My first few weeks as a noob involved roaming and exploring.  I took my curious imagination and wandered all over the grid.  I discovered all kinds of places.  That curious nature in me continues today although probably not something I do as much as before.

Now let's face it, sooner or later you are going to notice all the nice clothes the other avatars are wearing and wonder if maybe you need to start shopping for some clothes that fit your particular style preference.  Or you could choose to go all out and find clothing that is entirely new and worth exploring.  After all this is Second Life.  So why not venture out and possibly try something on the "edge" *winks*

Ugh, But then "reality" hits you and you realize that this is going to come at a price.  So now what?  I know that you can purchase L$ and for some people that is fine.  However there are some who consider the option of "earning" there L$.  Now how do I get a job?

People earn L$ in a wide variety of ways,  They create things, perform music, offer photography services, become DJs or Host events, just to name a few.

When I first started in SL, I was very fortunate to have an awesome mentor (JakeC Hotshot).  He took me under his wing and gave me my first job as a host in his club.  Do you remember Jakes Dance Club (later to become Jake's Club Resort?  I was actually the blogger for that website after JC passed the torch on to me.  We had some awesome parties that I am sure some of my older friends will remember.

The bottom line is that you find your own niche and explore it.  If you enjoy doing it and it helps you acquire some L$ spending money, then go ahead and do it.  If at anytime things get to be drag or you dread it then STOP doing it.  Remember this is your Second Life so keep it FUN!

Food Fair 2013

There are so many awesome events in SL that it can be overwhelming.  This one caught my eye today and so I am sharing it with you.  It's the 1st annual Food Fair.  I was impressed by the new Ham Dinner created by Kaz over at Pilot.  Mesh never tasted this good  It's great to see creators who will push mesh beyond clothes and buildings.  So go and check them out.  More info at : http://officialfoodfair.wordpress.com/

Another Mesh Shirt

First, if you have not gotten a mesh-enabled viewer yet, then you really should.   I would be surprised if you didn’t have one already.  Most new people who use the latest Linden Lab SL viewer are all set.  I personally use the latest Firestorm Viewer.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you this really nice shirt I got from BUID.  Here is the SLURL -- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/MC%20East%20River/113/188/29
Click on the image to view a larger size.

Let me start out by saying “Always try on the demo”  The reason for this is that since you cannot adjust a mesh piece when worn as you can with a prim object so you want to be sure of the fit.  One of the things I look for is if the creator included various size options in the package.  This is important because all avatars are not created equal in terms of size and shape.  That is why creators also include a transparent layer to “hide” that part of your shape where the piece covers.

A huge benefit to mesh clothing is the way the material drapes and covers the avatar shape in a more natural flow.  Plus, the overall textures look amazingly better.

Keep in mind when wearing more than one article of mesh clothing and watch which transparent layers you are wearing.   With a little practice you should be able to achieve a great fit and be very stylish in your mesh clothing.   It only gets better as more creators work at fine tuning and giving residents some very nice clothing.  Go out and get you some mesh!

Menswear Fashion Week 2012

Now imagine this location with lots of avatars and a lot of lag. I have not checked it out yet, but a friend told me it was bad this weekend. I would recommend visiting in the middle of the night and hope for less traffic.

Embrace the Mesh

Tonight I bought a great new jacket/shirt combo from Kal Rau.  I love it.  A big problem people have been having is the "fit" so the nice thing about this shirt is that it gives you several mesh options of various sizes including the transparent layer that helps make it all come together.

Mesh is certainly not perfect yet for every avi, but it's nice to see creators doing their best to put out a nice product for us to enjoy.

Now we certainly hope that more residents will be using mesh enabled viewers so that they too can enjoy the quality and detail that mesh provides.

Inventory Maintenance

I have not been feeling well the past few days, but one thing I started today was to spend time in my inventory.  Amazing how stuff accumulates.  It's no secret to me that I shop way too much and buy stuff I hardly ever wear.  I still have stuff from several Hunts to unpack and sort through. How does this happen?  LOL

So to make this even more interesting, I often check the Landmarks to see if they still work.  Sometimes the store is no longer inworld and sometimes I get teleported to someone's personal home parcel only to get hit by a security orb warning me to run run run.

I am starting with the t-shirt folder because that is where I think I will be able to weed the most.  Wish me luck and perseverance.

What's New?

Rocky & Scott
I have been very busy lately with my DJ thing and worked on getting some franchise businesses up on my sim. There is now a Hoorenbeek & Aikito store on Rocky Road.  One of my goals for the coming months is to get a few parcels on the sim ready for rental.  I have put this off long enough.

I have also been re-connecting with Scott since he recently returned to SL  The photo is of us at Si de Brit's rez day party. Scott was the DJ for the event. We both have a few music ideas that we are working on for Saint Niguel Isle.

Rocky Visits LaPerla II, Old Italy

Sim Owner Addy Hax describes it like this,  “La Perla Due” : a beautiful and with love for details build Italian village, nice shops, cafes, bar and a lot more to explore, from time  to time there are live music events on the plaza or in the club. The church  on the hill can be rented for wedding.

I recently went for a visit and spent some time exploring the shops and taking in the beautiful landscape.  Here is your ticket to a vacation you won’t forget — http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/FuriZona/112/59/25

Pardon Our Pixel Dust

Saint Niguel Isle is getting a makeover.  I have had the sim since last September and now with the help of my land team (Jett Shoreman and Brady Rowell) we are going to transform it into a welcoming place for all our friends to come live, play and enjoy.  We already have a club space on the water, and we are creating a lite commercial area that will include a gallery for Brady.  We will also have lots of parcels available for rent.  It's only the beginning, but we will keep you posted on our progress.

Party Themes and Shopping

Every Saturday, Jake's has a theme party. No surprise as most clubs do in SL. Once the theme for the next party is announced, friends start planning and figuring out how to get creative with their costume. Since I am a host, I also know what the theme is two weeks in advance. The tricky part for me is that I need to work on my costume before the photo shoot on Monday night while our friends have all week to get ready.

Shopping for the outfit can be pretty fun depending on the theme. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not. Since I have been a host at Jake's for almost 2 years now, I have a huge folder in my inventory filled with costumes. I usually look in there for ideas and then see if I can recycle anything or come up with something completely new. Then it's off to do some shopping.

Sometimes it's nice to go to clubs that have "come as you are" night. The social aspect of going to SL clubs can be a lot of fun. Choosing to come in a costume and participate in the contest is an option that is encouraged, but guests should also feel comfortable to just go and "hang out". I do that when I visit other clubs.
