Weekend Shopping
OK I admit it, I do enjoy shopping in Second Life and lots of times I really have to wonder why. I always ask myself this question when I am spending time in my inventory. I am usually in it before I log out for the night. I think the key to keeping your inventory tidy is to consider everything you acquired during your login and put the stuff in a proper folder, Trash the notecards and LM that you really don't need and THEN logout. My guess is that no one really wants to spend the time, but trust me, its worth the effort.
Sure I occasionally hit up TMD and MOM, but there are two weekend shopping events that I never miss. Fifty Linden Fridays and Lazy Sunday. These offer things for the home, but you can still find the girl stuff in them. If you like the things from WhatNext and Digs, then you can usually find them on the list.
If you really enjoy shopping and want to pre-shop online before you visit the store inworld, then I would encourage you to visit www.seraphimsl.com. This way you can do a quick preview before you go to the actual event or store.

Get out the weed whacker
It really astounds me at the volume of "stuff" I have collected over my 5
years in SL. I have been quite the pack rack. Holding on to things
that I will probably never rez or wear in my SLifetime. Now it's become
some sort of crazy game to weed through it every time I am in world.

Inventory Maintenance
I have not been feeling well the past few days, but one thing I started today was to spend time in my inventory. Amazing how stuff accumulates. It's no secret to me that I shop way too much and buy stuff I hardly ever wear. I still have stuff from several Hunts to unpack and sort through. How does this happen? LOL
So to make this even more interesting, I often check the Landmarks to see if they still work. Sometimes the store is no longer inworld and sometimes I get teleported to someone's personal home parcel only to get hit by a security orb warning me to run run run.
I am starting with the t-shirt folder because that is where I think I will be able to weed the most. Wish me luck and perseverance.

Party Themes and Shopping
Every Saturday, Jake's has a theme party. No surprise as most clubs do in SL. Once the theme for the next party is announced, friends start planning and figuring out how to get creative with their costume. Since I am a host, I also know what the theme is two weeks in advance. The tricky part for me is that I need to work on my costume before the photo shoot on Monday night while our friends have all week to get ready.
Shopping for the outfit can be pretty fun depending on the theme. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not. Since I have been a host at Jake's for almost 2 years now, I have a huge folder in my inventory filled with costumes. I usually look in there for ideas and then see if I can recycle anything or come up with something completely new. Then it's off to do some shopping.
Sometimes it's nice to go to clubs that have "come as you are" night. The social aspect of going to SL clubs can be a lot of fun. Choosing to come in a costume and participate in the contest is an option that is encouraged, but guests should also feel comfortable to just go and "hang out". I do that when I visit other clubs.

Rocky's Routine before logging off.
Do you carry some of your first life routines into SL? One of the things that I like to do before I log off SL for the night is to always go home. It really is nice to have a home in SL to actually go home to. One of the habits I try to remember to do is to tidy up my inventory before I log off. This helps because all I need to do is check my recent items tab and file objects from my day. I then put on some nice relaxing music to wind down. And then I put my avatar to bed as you can see by this picture. I wonder if you have any routines in SL?

Rocky Needs Therapy
I can't believe how late I was online last night taking part in the MHOH. I kept telling myself I would stop after one more and the next thing I know I am going on to the next. The hunt has been alot of fun and I have met a few nice people along the way where we would drop hints to each other. I am also discovering some nice places to shop and I keep the names on a list to visit later. I realize that some of this stuff may or may not be any good and at this point that doesn't bother me. Right now it's all going into a huge MHOH folder in my inv. For me this is about finding new places and collecting the "stuff" along the way. It's been very addictive. Is anyone else hooked on this too? I will be looking for a Shoppers Support Group after June 3oth.

What are you hunting for?
I was out late last night taking part in the Make Him Over Hunt. Not sure if I will find all 150+ gifts, but it is a fun way to pass the time. Right now I just have them stashed away in a folder waiting to be opened when the hunt ends on June 30. I am also on the group list so there is a lot of chatter in IM with people asking for clues and stuff. I think the best way to approach this is to just use the list on the website that has clues and go to locations at random, but you may want to follow the order from start to end.
This seems to be the season for Hunts. If you go to this blog, you will find a few more listed. Including a Storybook Hunt and a Bedroom Treasures Hunt. Humm, that last one sounds interesting. You can even join the Hunters Group. Happy Hunting!

Quick SL Inventory Tips
It's no secret that our inventory can get cluttered. I discovered this over the weekend. Rocky sort of prides himself on keeping a tidy inventory with a folder for all the right stuff. I spent a good few hours of filing and weeding my inventory and then realized my big problem. When I would rez stuff, instead of "deleting" objects, I got into the bad habit of "taking" them back. Of course it depends on what the object is and if it is copiable.
Another tip would be to spend time filing the stuff you acquired before you log off. Do it while it's still sitting in your "recent items" list. This makes it easy to find before it gets lumped in the big list.
You may also want to decline the automatic LM offers that you get when you visit places. Wait until you look around and then decide to create an LM for the location.
Duplicate notecards also can fill up your inventory. Read them and then delete them if you don't need to refer to them later.
The photo album, snapshots and texture folders also get messy. If you take snapshots inworld, you know the crazy way SL names them for the location. Rename them to something that is more meaningful. I like to use a chronological method followed by a good tag for searching. Something like 2009-04-06 (theme party at jakes).
I hope these tips help. If you come up with others that you want to share, be sure to leave me a comment.

My latest exploration
Hey! I am back with this quick post. I was very busy last night. I finally took some time to get my inventory in order. Not sure how long it will stay that way. There are lots of "Freebies" - some good stuff, some junk - to be found along the way. I also discovered these neat little treasure boxes that will pay you a $L. You never know where they will show up.
Here are a few things I found last night. I was on on a beautiful space and found myself landing clumsily under the dock. What I found was pretty amazing. A resident had set up a gallery shop underwater. They even offered a free art piece and a landmark to the space.
Next stop was on to The Weather Channel. Yes, they have a space in SL. While I was there I was able to pick up a free bike and ride the back roads of Moab. Awesome fun.
The last place on my trip was to Dahlia Island. Not sure of the exact area, but I was able to get a boat and sail on the water. It's a beautiful place to take someone out on the water for a romantic ride. The funny thing is that I also picked up a free swim bracelet there too. This might be helpful the next time I fall in the water. LOL. I could have used that earlier.
I will add the slurl to this post later so you too can discover them.

Today in SL
I spent some time roaming around SL this evening. I was hoping to get in and organize my inventory when I got an IM from Brady. Ok, so the distraction was a better choice. I guess I will have to tackle the inventory another day.
I broke away for dinner and then came back and had problems with crashing. I actually discovered that there is problem with my video card according to the message on the blue screen. It looks like I need to knuckle down and get back to putting in that new video card I got to upgrade several weeks ago. This will be especially important if the on board card goes kaput.
I tried to contact Jamie a few times and we did manage to connect albeit briefly before the computer crashed again. I will probably just give up on getting into SL for tonight.

Sneakers and Brady's House
I somehow managed to screw up my inventory and could not locate the original sneakers that were given to me by Jake. My Fnky Sneakers managed to only show up as boxed objects so I needed to find a place where I could unpack them and re-add them to my inventory.
Brady invited me over to his new house to help me out since I needed a place where it was ok to build and rez. He helped me with the minor adjustment once I was able to unpack them to my inventory. Brady doesn't have much furniture in his house yet but I am sure more will follow in due time.
We had a very nice visit as I always do when we have had our late night chats. We chat about life and how things are going with relationships and stuff in SL. Just getting to know each other type stuff. He is a very nice friend.
Jamie also checked in with me while I was at Brady's. We will be in touch again probably tomorrow night when he has more time. He had returned home after a visit with his family and was heading for bed soon so we did not chat long. Thanks for the inventory tip. It can get cluttered in there and it is a good idea to go in and sort, organize and weed.
