Are you employed in Second Life?

When you first rez into Second Life you are probably going to be homeless and without a job.  So is that a big deal?  The nice thing is that you are NOT naked.  Thanks to Linden Lab, you do get to choose a basic avatar, and the human ones do have clothes,

My first few weeks as a noob involved roaming and exploring.  I took my curious imagination and wandered all over the grid.  I discovered all kinds of places.  That curious nature in me continues today although probably not something I do as much as before.

Now let's face it, sooner or later you are going to notice all the nice clothes the other avatars are wearing and wonder if maybe you need to start shopping for some clothes that fit your particular style preference.  Or you could choose to go all out and find clothing that is entirely new and worth exploring.  After all this is Second Life.  So why not venture out and possibly try something on the "edge" *winks*

Ugh, But then "reality" hits you and you realize that this is going to come at a price.  So now what?  I know that you can purchase L$ and for some people that is fine.  However there are some who consider the option of "earning" there L$.  Now how do I get a job?

People earn L$ in a wide variety of ways,  They create things, perform music, offer photography services, become DJs or Host events, just to name a few.

When I first started in SL, I was very fortunate to have an awesome mentor (JakeC Hotshot).  He took me under his wing and gave me my first job as a host in his club.  Do you remember Jakes Dance Club (later to become Jake's Club Resort?  I was actually the blogger for that website after JC passed the torch on to me.  We had some awesome parties that I am sure some of my older friends will remember.

The bottom line is that you find your own niche and explore it.  If you enjoy doing it and it helps you acquire some L$ spending money, then go ahead and do it.  If at anytime things get to be drag or you dread it then STOP doing it.  Remember this is your Second Life so keep it FUN!

My First Year in Review - Part 1

This past week I have had several IMs from my SL friends recalling times, places and events over the past year. Most of these you can read about by checking the blog archive on the right, but I wanted to highlight a few here.

As best as I can recall, it all started when I landed on Boot's Gay Beach just after May 23, 2008. It was there that I met JakeC Hotshot and Eddi Haskell. I became the project of a newbie makeover. Something that took several hours and alot of patience on my part to complete. Everything from my Fratboy shape and Dante skin from Naughty, followed by a trip to FNKY for a few things. I guess you could say it was an extreme makeover.

I remember becoming the first prom king at a Jake's party. This was followed by getting a job at Jake's Club and becoming one of The Original Jake's Boys, Getting my photo taken by Eddi for the tip jar. Having long late night chats in the gallery with my first best SL friend Brady. Hanging out with Jamie Flintock, who was so patient with me as I was learning how to climb up stairs. And I will never forget my first Brady photoshoot in the water with Baz and Troy.

But just as things were getting started for me, a few months later, my computer hard drive crashed and I was not able to log into SL.

Coming up for air

I'ts been a very busy week for me here in-world. On Tuesday, I was out shopping with the other "Jake's Boys" looking for outfits for the upcoming Havana Nights theme on Saturday. Wednesday was the photoshoot with Brady and a quick outfit change at the last minute. Thanks Ritch for the Matador idea. I love the flexi prim sash and cape. Last night was the rehearsal for the Beefcake Fashion Show also coming up on Saturday at 6:30 SLT. This is gonna be another first for Rocky. Exciting and nervous about it, but I am sure it will be a lot of fun. Then it was a rush to our weekly "Thursday Strip Down" at Jake's. I ended the evening/early morning back at home with some very humorous family chat in conference. Gawd I love my SL family. You guys are too much. Smiles and Hugs.

Come Dance with Rocky

I have come to enjoy the ability to invite and share a dance with all my friends. My HUD has only about 12 good dances on it, but I do have my favorites and I am always on the look out for new ones to add from the usual places. Henmations, Sine Wave Island, Owenimations, etc... Here are a few more, Moonlight Animations, Dance Animations, and my favorite Akeyo Dance Animations.

When I first landed inworld, I was drawn to the social nature of the clubs and today I still enjoy that sense of community. That probably explains why I enjoy my SL job at Jake's Dance Club. You can find me dancing at a few other places too. I have been known to hang out at Boot's Gay Beach, Hot 'n Hung Gay Beach Resort (aka HnH), Sky Ranch, The Penitentiary. You may even catch me dancing at home while playing playing around with the building tools. That makes for some fun multi-tasking.

Now updated with SLURLs for everyone.

You are missed

I had a chat with my friend Brady this morning to get caught up on all the latest news. I am also grateful for all your kind thoughts during my absence in world. I miss all of you. I got word that my new computer was shipped today and they are projecting the delivery to be sometime between Tuesday and Thursday of next week. It looks like I will miss the Super Hero theme party on Saturday at Jake's. I soooo wanted to be there for it. In the meantime, you can watch this blog for updates. Hugs & Thanks.

The New Jake's Dance Club & Fine Arts Lounge

Last night was the Grand Opening of Jake's Dance Club & Fine Arts Lounge on Fire Island Pines. The club finally has a new home thanks to our wonderful hosts at Fire Island Pines. The new club is huge. From the large patio entrance out front you enter through huge open glass doors. To the left you will find Brady Rowell's fabulous art gallery where you then ascend the stairs up to the spacious dancefloor complete with lounge space.

Other spaces include to the right of the entrance a Wet Lounge with a huge fountain and place to be a bit more intimate if you so desire. On the back side you will find a large pool area complete with the signature red color scheme that is used throughout. Special thanks to Baz and his co-builder for their work on the new design. It looks fantastic. (photo courtesy of JC @ Midcourt)

Thursday Night Strip Down @ Jake's

I hope to make it over to Jake's for the weekly Strip down party. Always a fun way to wind down the week.

What did you do last night? Part 2

Last night I finally got a peek of the new Jake's Dance Club & Fine Arts Lounge. I got to see my friends Brady & Troy, Ritch, and Baz. Brady's Gallery is downstairs. The dancefloor is upstairs. There is a very nice pool area outside. Fire Island is a great location. I look forward to spending more time there.

Please be patient with me.

Last night I had a quick photo shoot at Brady's home. We both started to recall how much different it was with a past SL photographer we know who tended to be very demanding with "don't local chat". "be still", "use mouse look", "look this way". This happened when I first landed in SL as a noob. I was almost terrified by the experience and felt very uncomfortable and wanted to almost scream "Give me a break, I am new to this and don't know what to do yet".

In a similar event -- Last week I was trying to decide what to be for the Halloween Haunt at Jake's. Brady looked cute as a little goat boy. All I knew was that it would make me feel real uncomfortable about making those kinds of changes to my avatar. Hey, I love my cute and sexy look. I realize that like anything, it is important to have a copy of yourself in inventory and that it wouldn't be difficult to revert back to the Rocky everyone knows. My friend Ritch told me he had felt the same way before too.

These things take time to get comfortable with and I appreciate and love those who understand this. Thanks guys.

Weekend Wrap up

So did you miss me? Had a really fun weekend. The OZ dance party at Jakes on Saturday was "Awesome." Lots of great costumes and good company. I even saw my friend Tyler. Glad you could come out for the fun. It was good to see what people came up with. My best friend Troy came as a witch. Complete with skinny green chicken legs and a broom. It certainly made me smile. :)

Sunday I was out and about in RL & SL. I went shopping with Troy who discovered a great place for furniture. I will blog about that later. Unfortunately, I had a little accident back at my home when I tried to rez some stuff in the livingroom of my new home. I guess I "took" more than just the box and lost my walls and part of my ceiling. Scary to say the least. Thank goodness I had a copy of my house packed away in my inv and I didnt have much furniture down. Later, I had a little help from my neighbor Baz, and the process was not too difficult to rez the house all over again

DJ Syriana Paine

DJ Syriana Paine has got to be one of THE best DJ's I have heard on the grid. I have come across her playing at all the hottest places. Syri can be heard playing at Big Sky, Hot n Hunky, Club Bonobo and of course Jake's Dance Club. Her sexy voice, hot chat, and the way she interacts with the dance crowd is definitely not to be missed. From the first song to the strip down after party, I am sure you too will also agree that Syri is THE best.

Congratulations Ritch & Brady... yaaaay!!

Last night's theme at Jake's was Ritch's Sexy Circus. There were lots of really great costumes out on the dancefloor. I was a juggler. We were also celebrating my good friend Ritch's Birthday. Congratulations on your special day.
At the end to the party we discovered who the winner of the best costume. Look at the contest board and you will see that my best friend Brady Rowell was declared the winner. Yaaaaay Brady!!!

Great Dance Party on Saturday

Last night @ Jake's was a lot of fun. Our DJ Syriana was rippin some great tunes for us. There was a fantastic turn out of pimps and hoes out on the dancefloor. Glad you could all make it out. It was great chatting with some of my friends. I got to see Troy Antwerp in a great looking pimp outfit. BTW Troy is a dancer at Zippers Night Club. Be sure to check him out. I also got to meet up Zak Exonar. Zak is a fan of my blog. He even introduced me to his partner Xander Zessinthal. It was great meeting and chatting with both of you and I hope to see you again on the grid. Hugs all around to everybody.
