Rocky is NOT on Facebook.

Happy Friday to all my blog followers..  I have had a few messages from friends in Second Life asking me if I unfriended them on Facebook..  It would take a lot for me to do that, but for the record... Facebook disabled my account at the end of May this year and wanted verifiable identification.  No cigar  So I decided not to return.  Please feel free to share this with others who may be wondering "Where is Rocky?"  You could also "Google Me" and you will see that I am in a lot of other places.  Have a super weekend!

Busy Busy Busy

Just a short post to let you know that I am still around. It's been a very very busy week. I attended a few things at Second Pride and a few Rez Day Parties. I have been trying to get into using Photoshop more. I have been experimenting with SL Photography working with backgrounds and poses. Not sure where that is all going at the moment, but it has peeked my interest. I also have 7 bunnies and had an unexpected nest appear this week in the pen. I am going to wait on starting the birth till I figure out how far I want to take this whole bunny thing. I only have a few, but they are an added task on top of my already busy SL work and social stuff. Rocky's retreat has been a great place for me to try out new projects and I hardly get to my "other" SL home. I also continue to update the various sites for Jake's Club Resort. Peace and hugs to all my followers.

First Plurk Party in SL

On Saturday, I went to the first Plurk Party in SL. It was a lot of fun to see how many plurkers are in SL. Yep... Lot's of us. I also enjoyed the tunes that DJ Rusch Raymaker was spinning for us.

The place was packed and the lag was bad for some. I arrived near the end and only managed to crash one time. Looks like my graphics card could handle it nicely despite the conditions.

You can find me plurking online here

Avatars Unite!

By now, most of you who are in SL have heard about Linden Lab's recent acquisition of the company that created the Avatars United website. Since then, the site has really taken off and many SL residents have been registering, setting up profiles and even groups. The site looks promising and despite some of the negativity that has already been generated, I see this as offering great social potential for you and your avatar. It's been compared to as facebook for your avatar.

Right now, lots of people are requesting to "unite" with others. The question I have for you is this -- unless you plan to somehow connect in-world and/or out -- Why send a request to a total stranger? If you are have a group, are you planning to use it as a marketing tool to promote your business? The potential is there if you choose to use it. I would suggest that you ask your self the question "Why," because we already have those who will "friend" you in SL never to be heard from down the road.

Comments are always welcome.

Another social site for your avatar - SLook

It seems as though there are increasing opportunities for your avatar to venture into social networking these days. Here is a new one that celebrated with a launch party this past week. Check out this YouTube video.

Ok, I admit it, I signed up and you can now catch me here too.

Rocky's Come Back

Ok, so I never really quite left, but I did cut back on my time in SL and it was good for me. I still have some housekeeping to take care of such as, groups, deeded objects, personal items, etc., but I will get through it.

So what is next on my plate? I have been playing with streaming on and off, and I still hope to work on playing DJ for the occasional impromptu parties. I am also looking at incorporating business adverts some how.

Content creation is always on my mind, so maybe I can come up with a project to work on in that area. Maybe go back and look at the coffee shop idea or create a dance space to have parties. Romantic & social hangouts seem to be a big thing here in SL so I need to look at that.

I also have all my social media stuff to work on. Rocky is all over the place these days. You can find me on
Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, SLProfiles, a lot of Ning sites, and right now I am using Plurk and having fun there with some of my SL friends.

I am in a few other places as well. I need to stop and create a list. I will be putting my social contacts in a future blog post or in the sidebar in case you want to join others in stalking me. LOL

Partners in both places?

Last night, I came across a situation that got me thinking. RL partners and SL partners. Suppose you have a RL partner or you eventually get a RL partner after already having a partner in SL. How would you handle that? Do you invite that RL partner to become a part of your SL partner experience? Or do you somehow manage to keep both relationships separate? I guess for me I don't really know how I would handle that until it came up. It also depends on what your SL experience is all about. Social, business, educational, etc.. all play a part. It's Rocky's curious nature and I suppose there will continue to be discussion on if there really is a "fine line between SL and RL". As always, please feel free to leave a comment.

Do you Tweet?

I'm continuing my series of social media polls and this week I want to find out if you use Twitter. I've been experimenting with a few potential uses. Tweets can be used for your SL business and can be a great way to post short (140 character) notices about your products or events. They can also be a nice way to drive traffic to your blog or website. Please take my poll over in the right sidebar.

Second Life's 6th Birthday

It's a party and you are all invited. The celebration is June 23-29. Taking place on 20 regions. This year's theme is The Future of Virtual Worlds. I got a preview last night and this place looks very futuristic. Be sure to set your environment to midnight to take advantage of the cool lighting.

There is a lot of information here on the SL6B wiki, including a complete calendar of events.

Treet.tv will be streaming the opening ceremonies if you can't make it to the event. Just add this url to your land or media player : http://streams.treet.tv/live.mov There is also a really nice audio stream of cinema music available to you here : http://www.cinemix.us

Update 10:15 am SLT - Here is an alternative link to the video stream : http://www.ustream.tv/channel/treet-tv

Does your avatar need a Facebook profile?

Ok blog vistors, I am taking a short poll over in the sidebar. This was prompted by a few of my SL friends who suggested that Rocky join them on Facebook. Yes, Rocky is now on Facebook. You know that Rocky is always curious about something and this is where you get to participate. So go to the sidebar and cast your vote.

Second Life is Social Media

I just caught this interesting article over at Web Worker Daily. The writer makes some key comparisons. There are also some good comments. You may want to check it out for yourself here. It's kind of like how I try to explain it and tell people that it's really not a game.
