Partners in both places?

Last night, I came across a situation that got me thinking. RL partners and SL partners. Suppose you have a RL partner or you eventually get a RL partner after already having a partner in SL. How would you handle that? Do you invite that RL partner to become a part of your SL partner experience? Or do you somehow manage to keep both relationships separate? I guess for me I don't really know how I would handle that until it came up. It also depends on what your SL experience is all about. Social, business, educational, etc.. all play a part. It's Rocky's curious nature and I suppose there will continue to be discussion on if there really is a "fine line between SL and RL". As always, please feel free to leave a comment.

I don't recall if i've written a post on this topic or not.

You may or may not know, I'm in a long term relationship in RL. Plus I've had one SL partnership and numerous, um, "short term" relationships.

On top of that, I've meet my SL partner in RL too. (we ended up knowing one another for about a year and a half, most of that in RL after he left SL)

My thinking is that a RL relationship requires constant communication and total honesty, which implies revealing whatever one is doing in SL to them to whatever degree they want to know. And if you can't talk about it, don't be doing it.

Partnering in SL requires a similar but different kind of openness. It requires being honest about what the relationship is and isn't. What it can be and what it can't.

In both cases its about setting the expectations at a level that is both reasonable and can be met.

So, my RL partner knew pretty much everything that was going on with my SL one. And knows pretty much about everything I do in SL (to the degree that they want to know anyway).

And the SL partner, there's a whole epic story to tell there. And that is probably why I'll probably just date in SL for the time being.

(Not that I don't still got plenty of love left in me.)
