Rocky & Scott

I have been very busy lately with my DJ thing and worked on getting some franchise businesses up on my sim. There is now a Hoorenbeek & Aikito store on Rocky Road. One of my goals for the coming months is to get a few parcels on the sim ready for rental. I have put this off long enough.

I have also been re-connecting with Scott since he recently returned to SL The photo is of us at Si de Brit's rez day party. Scott was the DJ for the event. We both have a few music ideas that we are working on for Saint Niguel Isle.

The Passing of Fabrice Snook

After a number of unsuccessful attempts to get any news about the disappearance of our dear friend Fab, we finally got word that he had passed away back in November of last year.

I really got to know Fab when he approached me with an idea he had for creating Gay-worldsnews.com. I decided to join the team and eventually offered to host the GWN Headquarters and TV Studio on Saint Niguel Isle.

Fab was a friend who taught me to expand on dreams and ideas. He worked tirelessly for the good of the community -- Always driving us forward.

Fab was also very generous, kind, and at times humorous. I can still hear his amazingly sexy French voice accent during our GWN Staff Meetings. He shared many of the objects we use at the TV studio, but he also left us with something that has become a bit of humor among team members. We have his 137 prim television camera in the TV studio. I will be working on some sort of Memorial to him at the GWN HQ sometime soon.

Fab will leave us with a legacy of good memories and high hopes for our time in working with the LGBT community both in-world and out. Thank you Fab for being a true friend.

The past week or so I have been decorating a nice building at the end of Rocky Road on my sim. I am calling this place Rockridge Coffee House Lounge and it's all fixed for the holidays. Complete with a coffee machine, steaming hot cups of cocoa and gingerbread cookies.

There is even a nice comfy area to sit near the fireplace with friends. I also put some Holiday music on the parcel stream to get you in the holiday spirit.

GW News on Saint Niguel Isle.

One of the projects I have been involved with over the past couple of months has been with GWNews. I am currently the Director of Marketing for this new venture along with a team of very dedicated Staff and Reporters.

Saint Niguel Isle. (my home sim) is currently hosting the GWNews HQ & Television Studio. They are a nice addition to the landscape.

SNI Welcomes Artist Van Caerndow

Saint Niguel Isle is one of the host sims for the GA International Fine Arts Tour.

We are happy to have Van Caerndow exhibit his works here. He is a wonderful artist from the Southern part of the United States. He paints stained glass, oil and watercolor.

There are some really nice pieces in the gallery at the end of Rocky Road. So be sure to stop by soon. The exhibit is running through October 3rd.

My Beautiful Lighthouse

I wanted to create some sort of branding for my sim and this is what I came up with. We have a wonderful balance between residential and business parcels and the focal point is the beautiful lighthouse that graces the corner of the sim.

Last week was a very busy week for me in SL. I was involved in some of the activities of the LGBT SummerFest 2011. If you didn't get to this one you missed out on a lot of fun activities. I was even asked to manage a full sim which was used to host events from groups that are currently not a part of the GA. We had a great turn out for several of the lesbian events. The Famous 5 had a great party and it was packed. On Saturday was the Nekkid Parade and party at the Slot in San Francisco. DJ Hotboy kept all the hot sweaty bodies rockin to some great music. On Sunday, I got an IM from HunterTx asking if I was interested in being on the judges panel for the Mr. Nude contest and of course how could I turn that down.

So yeah some of you got to see more of me than you probably ever imagined *wink* All good fun.

If you follow my DJ blog I want to give you a heads up that there are probably some changes happening there as well real soon too.

Over the weekend I was reminded of someone's Birthday. Sunday was DJ Syri's Birthday. I actually blogged an interview with her here and a followup here.

So where is she now? You may remember her from her days with Jake's Club Resort. She was quite a regular for Time Warp Tuesday, Stripdown Thursday, and the weekly Saturday Theme party.

Syri was definitely a part of my SL Family. I always had a great admiration for her and loved her DJ style and interactions.

I also got to know her a bit more outside of the clubbing scene. She always had a great sense of wit and wisdom to share. Skype chats were also a great way to get to know her more.

I recently caught up with her on Facebook and have added her as a friend there. She seems to be spending less time in SL now, but I just wanted to let you know that she is still around and not forgotten.

On Friday, we had a fun Circus theme party for Brady Rowell's 3rd Rez day. We cleared out a corner of my sim and set up a tent with carnival rides and everything.

Thanks to Brodie Washborne, Jett Shoreman, and JakeC Hotshot for helping set it all up. We definitely still know how to throw a great party. It was a lot of fun and thanks to all our friends that showed up to help us celebrate.

Braaaaaaaaaady is a great guy and always makes me smile. He is a wonderful SL Bro and I love him a lot. All the best!

Saint Niguel Isle is getting a makeover. I have had the sim since last September and now with the help of my land team (Jett Shoreman and Brady Rowell) we are going to transform it into a welcoming place for all our friends to come live, play and enjoy. We already have a club space on the water, and we are creating a lite commercial area that will include a gallery for Brady. We will also have lots of parcels available for rent. It's only the beginning, but we will keep you posted on our progress.

I love the San Francisco Skyline at night. If you have ever been to my home in SL you will find a huge copy of this on one of the outside walls.

So here we are at the beginning of a new year. I don't make resolutions each year, but I do spend some time looking back. 2010 in SL was pretty good. I met a few more people in some ways both in-world and out. Nickk Twist is a great guy who is getting his feet wet in SL and learning so much that SL has to offer. Social aspects are always filled with ups and downs, but i know we all learn from the experience.

Another new friend is Jett Shoreman. Jett is an amazing guy who has a lot to share in terms of building skills. He is warm and friendly and one of my new "groupies" who comes out to my DJ sets on Wednesdays at the Slot in San Francisco.

This was also the year I reached Plurk Karma 100. Boy what a ride that was. Yes, I am a plurkaholic. Follow me if you can.

I want to thank all my blog followers this past year and hope to blog more regularly in the new year. Hugs all around.

Hi Friends, I meant to post this earlier, but the Holiday kept me busy in-world and out. My SL experience continues to hold a special place for me. Despite the ups and downs, my overall experience has been good. I am very grateful for the many friends that I have had the pleasure in meeting. Some friendships seem to be distant and some very close. I want you all to know that I appreciate each and every one of you. Hi Friends, I just wanted to give you a little update on what I have been up to. I missed you all, but things have been so busy these last couple of weeks that I have hardly had time to catch my breath.

First, after a wonderful farewell party, Jake's Club Resort closed. It was bitter sweet. That also gave us the opportunity to explore something new and exciting. Unfortunately some of the team decided not to join us on our new venture. However, I am still active with the Jake's team and we are now sharing our great party experiences on the San Francisco Sims. More on all that in a future post.

Second, is that I am still settling in on my newly acquired sim. I hope to be renting our parcels real soon. So if you are looking for a place to call home, be sure to hit me up and I can give you a tour.

Finally, I want to let you know that I continue to enjoy my SL experience. Socializing, shopping, exploring and a little building/creating. I think I have some ideas for projects in the future.

Second Life Viewers

So much has happened recently in terms of what we use to access Second Life. There have been a lot of opinions, blogs, tweets, and plurks about it that I will not go into it here in this post. I will just say that I was a very happy user of the Emerald viewer for a long time. Over the past several weeks I have tried a few other alternative ones -- Kirstens, Phoenix, Emergence, Imprudence and yes even Second Life Viewer 2. My current viewer of choice has been Emergence. It seems to be the most stable for me (no crashes and good texture loading). So I will stick with it for awhile.

One thing users seem to forget is that of choice and expectations. We have a choice in what we use for SL and what works best for our specific needs. Some viewers are better for photography and machinima, and some work best for builders and content creators. This is why we choose certain brands of cars, soap, or computers over others. We are not going to find one that does it all.

We all want to know that the viewer we are using is not being used by certain people for malicious purposes. I also think that we would do well to remember that these viewers are provided to us for FREE and are always undergoing changes by the generosity of dedicated developers.

There are also lots of variables involved with computers (age, video cards, monitors, processors, etc...) Throughout all this, I think it's important to keep in mind that with any viewer -- "Your mileage may vary"

Tea Time with a Rock-Star

Even a Rock-Star need a break

Time without internet in the evening was quite an experience, but it also gave me the time to work on a few other things.

One of them was finally getting into Photoshop and learning a few things. I had been meaning to do this for a very long time. Still not a whiz at it, but it's a start.

The other thing was getting back into my music collection, organizing my downloads and creating a few new mix sets.

Today, with a bit of perseverance, I finally got to speak with a person higher up who was able to resolve my internet connection issues.

DSL is up, Internet is down.

So here is the latest news from me. I moved in my first life about 3 weeks ago to the apt above me. Phone and internet moved ok with only a few glitches. Last Friday I got home and was getting ready to go online to DJ at the Pool Party and discovered that my internet was down. So after a few calls and no real help, I find that an error was made at ATT and my internet was disconnected. Fast forward to today when I finally spoke with someone who got the wheels moving. Bottom line is that i should finally be up Wednesday. (fingers crossed).

Your Bunny is Out of Date!!

I have had these bunnies for a few months now and they have been fun. Even had a few unexpected nests appear, but once I solved that problem, it seems like more disruptions started to happen.

I am talking about the annoying updates that seemed to be happening every other day. Not that I have a lot of bunnies to update, I only have 7, but they sort of take the enjoyment out of having the bunnies.

So I have them on level one and the food will run out in a few days. I will probably give it all up very soon. Let me know if you want them.

Rocky as the Boy Wonder

Saturday was the big Comic Book Heroes Party at Jake's Club Resort. It was also a celebration for Jake's joining the Gay Archipelago.

The party was packed and at one point there were 50 guests on the sim. The energy was definitely high. DJ Syriana Paine kept us moving to some great music.

I had a lot of fun and got lots of comments on my Robin outfit too. *grin*

The Power of Music

One of the things I enjoy in SL, is when I get to play the DJ for the pool party on Friday. I start at 6pm SLT and we never really know who will show up for it. It's a stress free way to relax after a busy week. We have a few regulars that show up every week and it's always great to see them.

Ritch and I have been doing this for almost a year now. Amazing how time flies. Over time I have gotten to know what songs people enjoy hearing. Sorta what works and what doesn't. I even realize that as i am going through the set. It may sound good when i put the list together, but sometimes when the song gets actually played on air, I may have my doubts about it.

My music collection is not huge by comparison to most DJs in SL, but i do have a variety that I hardly ever get to play. So sometimes I put my stream up online and share some of that variety on air. It's fun to do while I am busy with other things online.

There is something about music that has really always touched my heart in so many ways. It's one of those things that is hard to explain, but I am sure you get what I am talking about.

So the next time you come across a DJ, whether it's me or someone else, just remember that they are sharing a gift which can have a tremendous impact on your heart and how you feel.

Pride and Diversity Exhibition Planned by Brady Rowell

After taking a small hiatus, Second Life photographer Brady Rowell has returned to take on a new photography project centered on the Second Life Gay Community. Aptly titled "Pride and Diversity", the Photo Exhibition is planned to open for public viewing in August 2010 and will attempt to capture the uniqueness of individual avatars from the gay community while illustrating the diversity of the community itself. “I want to show how different members of the gay community in SL are and why these differences, when put together, make the gay community in SL great”, commented Brady when proposing this project to JakeC Hotshot and Baz Ceawlin, the owners of the main gallery at Jake’s Club Resort.

Second Pride 2010

Today I wrapped up my participation in Second Pride with a visit to the AIDS quilt. I had always wanted to see the actual quilt in first life, but have never got around to doing it. So a trip to see the quilt in SL was a nice option. It was very well laid out and there were some very moving tributes to those who have gone before us. I had a few friends tell that they also enjoyed the experience of the visit.

Busy Busy Busy

Just a short post to let you know that I am still around. It's been a very very busy week. I attended a few things at Second Pride and a few Rez Day Parties. I have been trying to get into using Photoshop more. I have been experimenting with SL Photography working with backgrounds and poses. Not sure where that is all going at the moment, but it has peeked my interest. I also have 7 bunnies and had an unexpected nest appear this week in the pen. I am going to wait on starting the birth till I figure out how far I want to take this whole bunny thing. I only have a few, but they are an added task on top of my already busy SL work and social stuff. Rocky's retreat has been a great place for me to try out new projects and I hardly get to my "other" SL home. I also continue to update the various sites for Jake's Club Resort. Memorial Day Weekend

One of the things I enjoy doing in SL, is being the DJ for the R&R Pool Party at Jake's on Friday. I take the first part and then Ritch takes the second set. It's always a lot of fun to see our friends trickle in to join us at the pool. We have some regulars and always a few surprise newcomers.

I finally got around to updating my DJ Tip jar. I have been playing around with poses and backgrounds. Having a project like this encourages me to get more into Photoshop. The result is what you see here.

My blog is getting a makeover

My tip jar at Jake's recently got a makeover and so I was thinking about giving my blog a makeover as well. Blogger recently added some easy-to-use features that make the customization process a lot easier. Things will be a bit messy until I settle on a new look for the site.

Party Themes and Shopping

Every Saturday, Jake's has a theme party. No surprise as most clubs do in SL. Once the theme for the next party is announced, friends start planning and figuring out how to get creative with their costume. Since I am a host, I also know what the theme is two weeks in advance. The tricky part for me is that I need to work on my costume before the photo shoot on Monday night while our friends have all week to get ready.

Shopping for the outfit can be pretty fun depending on the theme. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not. Since I have been a host at Jake's for almost 2 years now, I have a huge folder in my inventory filled with costumes. I usually look in there for ideas and then see if I can recycle anything or come up with something completely new. Then it's off to do some shopping.

Sometimes it's nice to go to clubs that have "come as you are" night. The social aspect of going to SL clubs can be a lot of fun. Choosing to come in a costume and participate in the contest is an option that is encouraged, but guests should also feel comfortable to just go and "hang out". I do that when I visit other clubs.

Kal and I did something totally different last night. We logged off earlier than usual. It seems like we both came to the conclusion that we have been spending way too much time in-world over the past week. After some IM back and forth, and a nice long hug, we said good night. And you know what? It felt ok to do that. I know that I see friends on my friend list in-world for hours at a time every single night. Does that sound like you?

In my first life work, I am on the computer all day long. I know we are all wired 24/7 these days with all the social bells and whistles we have available to us, but I challenge you to take time out and see what happens. You may discover something new.

End of post and time for a break... well... for a few hours at least.

First Plurk Party in SL

On Saturday, I went to the first Plurk Party in SL. It was a lot of fun to see how many plurkers are in SL. Yep... Lot's of us. I also enjoyed the tunes that DJ Rusch Raymaker was spinning for us.

The place was packed and the lag was bad for some. I arrived near the end and only managed to crash one time. Looks like my graphics card could handle it nicely despite the conditions.

Where are they now?

This post is about the connections we make in SL. I recently learned that one of my SL friends has fallen into some hard times with his relationship, friends, and business. He sort of felt that SL was not a good place to be and has decided to leave. Will he come back? I really don't know the answer, but I do know that I will miss him.

I suppose how this affects you all depends on how you look at SL. Do the connections you make in SL really matter in your own first life or are they just short term acquaintances with no real investment on your part? For me, all of my connections with residents have some meaning. How can they not? We do not live in a vacuum, but are part of the larger community as a whole.

Some of us may or may not ever cross paths in first and second life, but we all play a part in each others lives in some way and for some reason.

Avatars Unite!

By now, most of you who are in SL have heard about Linden Lab's recent acquisition of the company that created the Avatars United website. Since then, the site has really taken off and many SL residents have been registering, setting up profiles and even groups. The site looks promising and despite some of the negativity that has already been generated, I see this as offering great social potential for you and your avatar. It's been compared to as facebook for your avatar.

Right now, lots of people are requesting to "unite" with others. The question I have for you is this -- unless you plan to somehow connect in-world and/or out -- Why send a request to a total stranger? If you are have a group, are you planning to use it as a marketing tool to promote your business? The potential is there if you choose to use it. I would suggest that you ask your self the question "Why," because we already have those who will "friend" you in SL never to be heard from down the road.

Imagination and Wonder - Don't Lose it

Last night was the "Lights on Broadway" party at Jake's. The set was amazing and what is even more amazing is that here in SL we have the opportunity to experience people and places in a way we may never have imagined. The ability to travel to all sorts of places we only dream of visiting. All with the click of the Teleport button.

I know it's my own "child-like" sense of curiosity and adventure that keeps me going in SL. There is so much to see and do.

The other thing is the friends we encounter in SL. I have touched on the various kinds of "ships" in a prior post. I tend to have a good sense of the people I meet. The connections are amazing. My recent friendship with Kal has turned into something very special that is hard to explain. Although we have never met in first life and are miles and miles apart, I feel very close to him. Perhaps you have experienced the same thing.

Letting go of all the "junk" that's put in front of our first life is hard. But when we let go of all the hate, prejudices and ugliness we open ourselves up to a world of amazing opportunity to do good not only in this life, but in our second life as well.

Tuesday Timewarp

Last night I was hosting our weekly Tuesday Timewarp with DJ Syriana Paine in the Plaza at Jake's. If you have not been to any of these you really should go. Last night we introduced something new. Trivia questions. Brady Rowell came up with our list of questions and Ritch Nicholls read them out in local chat. There was great guest participation. The winner who answered the most questions correctly got to pick the theme for the next week's party. Congratulations to my boy Kaladon Daxter!! He chose "One Hit Wonders" for our next week theme. That should be interesting. I hope to see you there next week.

Second Life IS Real lives, Real People

I know that his topic gets tossed around a lot among bloggers and stuff. I have even touched on it a few times. Not all of us our going to agree and that's a good thing. So if you are one of those SL residents who approaches SL as something of a game and manage to disassociate yourself with anything remotely human, then you're probably not going to care for what I have to share.

My personal belief is that there is no way to separate both our SL and what I like to call "first life" experiences. Let's face it, we DO bring our first life experiences into SL each time we log on. If you had a bad day at work, going through a difficult time, or had an awesome revelation in your first life, it will come about in any social contact you have with others. We are all social beings. SL friendships are a wonderful outlet for sharing. True SL friends are the ones that take the time to listen and offer feedback in a caring and a non-judgmental way. They share your ups and downs.

The other point, I was reminded of is that in SL we have the ability to not only dream, but take those dreams and explore them in a way we can't or might not do in our first life. Whether this is in a creative sense such as learning a new skill, or in developing certain personal relationships. SL gives us the opportunity to actually "live the dream" and at the same time, hopefully we are able to learn about ourselves in the process. This in turn will spill over into our first life.

Wednesday January 6 2010 at 5:00 a.m. Pacific, we’ll be closing logins and disabling major in world services for ninety minutes of upgrade work on our databases.

During the maintenance, logins and account registrations will be unavailable.

Residents who are in world when maintenance begins will lose access to services such as

mapping,
teleport,
inventory,
object and L$ transfers, and
LindeX.

We’ll warn in world several minutes before the outage begins, and we’ll post any changes to the scope and schedule of the work here as they develop.

We appreciate that this will inconvenience a number of our Residents. The maintenance work is to enhance the stability and performance of our database-backed services.

My Visit to The Lighthouse

Last night I had an amazing visit to the lighthouse where an idea to turn the space into a restaurant is both a dream and a potential reality. It also seems like a metaphor for what is happening in this amazing friendship that is growing between Brendan, Caivan and myself. It certainly does bring a smile to my face.

Do You Need All those Options?

I love all my toys. I have some from Blue Balls, Bits & Bobs, and a really nice bed from Duke Magneto over at Theater Row by Row.

So when I saw this amazing bed with "600" animations, I started to wonder... How many is too much? I let you decide.

I have learned that the animations are only one piece of any hot sexual experience in SL. Text chat (which is a bit of an art) or voice are another piece. I will admit that for me, having lots of options is definitely a plus, but 600? So what do you think? Please feel free to leave a comment.

Music is Universal

There is something very special about how music plays a part of my life. There is always something that strikes a certain mood with me. That's what I like about the wide range of music I enjoy. DJ, Club, Dance, House, Trance, Techno, Pop, and even Classical music. Besides exploring the grid and shopping (among other things), you can find me dancing in a club just about every night of the week.

So why is that you may wonder? Well the social nature is definitely a plus that I have come to grow into and appreciate. While I don't have hundreds of friends on my list, I do have a great core group of friends who I have come to know and love. I remember my early days in SL where I was a lot more quiet if you can believe that. SL has been a great place for me to "get out" and explore in a comfortable setting.

Here are some radio stations that I have come across lately that you may want to check out and perhaps add them to your land radio / media if you are fortunate enough to own land. Don't be afraid of the French and German language. You can easily find the media link on the pages.

Searching for that unique item

The other night I was out with my friend Divos who wanted to show me a new skin that he was interested in. The idea was that it was different from all of the others he had seen on the grid. This is so true. How many times have you come across or noticed that the skin or shape you have is also shared by others? Everyone wants to create their own style and not look like a cookie cutter replicate of another.

This also applies to dances. I remember when my friend JC noticed that I had also discovered some of cool dances at Akeyo. He was a little bummed out about it, but now I have them too and they are my favorite as well.

Last night I was IM chatting with my friend Brendan about the clothes and outfits we got from the recent MHOH 2. I showed him a picture of me in one and he said "I have that one too" In this case, I think the best thing to do is to pull apart the "outfits" and use them as separate pieces. It does mean more work to create and put the jeans and shirts in separate folders, but it should be well worth it. Besides, who wants to look like that poster in the shop anyway.

So go out and create your own individual SL Style and have fun.

Rocky's Birthday Party

Last night my friends came out to celebrate my birthday with a 1950s sock hop style. I had no idea this was going to be as huge an event as it turned out to be. Baz built a 50s style diner for it. Ritchie was our DJ for the night. He played songs with milkshake, and rockstar. That was pretty cool. After a break, I logged back on and headed over to Hunter's for FFF with the awesome DJ Syriana Paine. She ended her set and stayed a little longer and played some of my old time favorites from my very early days in SL. That brought back lots of great memories for me. Thanks sooooooo much. DJ Rocky Picking Music to Play

By now you probably know that what started out as an impromptu thing turned into a regular thing. Amazing how that happened. So now Ritch and I play DJ for our all our friends Friday's 5-8pm SLT at Jake's

What you may not know is that I occasionally put my stream up online and play all kinds of music. I actually did this this past week and had a couple of devoted listeners. And yes, I was on mic too.

So what kind of music do I enjoy playing? Well, my library is not huge by any means, but my music range is pretty varied. Pop, Dance, Club, Classical, Trance, House, Jazz. Yep... all kinds. So watch for the link when I post it here, GTalk, Twitter, Plurk, Facebook and Skype.
